Got a London Marathon Entry?
It is that time of year again when many people will have received confirmation of success in the London Marathon ballot and consequently thoughts will have turned towards getting ready for the big day.
Now is a great time to start your training in earnest, the weather is (generally) still pleasant enough to make your long Sunday morning run a pleasure and it’s not generally dark when you go to work and when you come home.
Leave it another month and getting started will be much harder, inching the duvet further up on that cold icy/sleety/windy/misty Sunday morning or coming home sticking the fire on and enjoying those oh so good winter dishes may well stop you getting started, leave it a little longer and the annual excess of Christmas may just tempt you to thinking that it’s no use starting now and you may as well do it once you have consumed your own body weight in turkey, Stilton and you have gone back to work and realised your trousers have ‘shrunk’.Starting from scratch come January is going to be tough, you’ll only have 4 months to get there, it’s doable for some, but I suspect it will hurt a lot and the risk of injury will hang like the Sword of Damocles the whole time. Within the club we have many veterans of the fabled marathon distance, from sub three hour runners, to ‘good for age’ runners to the ‘just get round’ types there is a whole world experience that can help you. There is no doubt it will be the best £15 you will spend as part of your preparation and there will be a fair few Beverley AC runners there on the day.
If like me you were delivered a rejection slip the simple fact you entered means the idea will be firmly planted in your head so why not start now anyway? There is a whole world of other races and adventures from 5k to marathon to double marathon, 24 hour and beyond, any one of which could become your next challenge. See the membership page for more information and I’ll see you next at training…
